Mahalaxmi is part of Triad Diety of Prosperity, that is sustainable. Although a lot of people revere Mahalakshmi, there is deeper wisdom of why we revere Ganpati, Sarasvati and Lakshmi together.

श्री गणेश is the deity of विवेकबुद्धि and विघ्नविनाशक (wisdom , obstacle-destroyer)
श्री सरस्वती देवी is the deity of ज्ञान(knowledge)
श्री लक्ष्मी is the deity of समृद्धि(prosperity)

Initiate udhyog (गणेश) imbued with knowledge (सरस्वती) only then can you attain prosperity (लक्ष्मी) .
To put it simply,
path to समृद्धि (prosperity) is through विवेकबुद्धि (Wisdom) and ज्ञान (knowledge)

i.e Laxmi doesn’t reside where Ganesh (wisdom) and Sarasvati (knowledge) are not revered.
